"The Commons" - This building is 1 story and is the main entrance for the dorm. It contains a large open room for meetings and gatherings, a kitchen, information center and the dorm director's housing. This is the only building that was not on fire upon arrival of FD

Picture 4 is after entering the courtyard from the Commons and looking to the left. This picture shows the kind of connections by roof and walkways. During the fireground explanations, this corner is referred to as Sector 1-3 corner. The fire was already coming through the roof that is seen in the background and was one of the corners that was considered a cutoff point for the fire.

Picture 5 shows the left side of the complex (later referred to as Sector 3). To the right of this picture is the joining corner with the lower dorm and the location of the Point of Origin, the recycling bin.

Picture 6 Shows the lower dorm, a full 2 story with housing on both floors. This picture shows more of the amount of wood exposed for fire travel. Wood decks and board & batten aided in the intense radiant heat in the courtyard area.

Picture 7 is a good view of the walkways/decks in front of each building. These decks were rapidly ignited under fire conditions and posed part of the collapse zone concerns along with rock veneer walls and masonary
