In total, the operation lasted around 14-15 hours. Streams were still being used to cool areas along a foam line that was placed in service. During this operation, collapse zones still posed great danger.
With authority from the insurance company, a trackhoe was used to knockdown walls, allowing us to overhaul areas and to make sure that the threat was minimized for persons who might eventually work around the area after we had cleared the scene.
Temperatures remained below freezing all day with most water sprayed being turned into ice shortly after. Crews were rotated through a rehab setup at an adjacent dorm. They were monitored by EMS personnel from Buncmobe County Rescue Squad and fed by the Auxiliary of SVFD.
